When the League of Conservation Voters tried to find a statement by James Gilmore about the threat of global warming for its Heat is On web site, they had to go way back to 2001, when Gilmore denied human responsibility for global warming, saying, “There is not a solid link between greenhouse gases in that warming or at least human conduct and industrial conduct in that warming.”

Gilmore says he supports public education and opposes school voucher programs.

“My goal has always been to make our public schools—from the elementary school classroom to the college campus—the very best choice any Virginian can make for their education or the education of their children.” (K-12 Education Amendments to the Budget, 12/7/00)

In a statement to The Virginian-Pilot, Gilmore said, “I consistently have maintained that I would not support a voucher plan if it would be detrimental to public schools.”

Gilmore Wants Conservatives to Examine His Track Record

Original source: http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewPolitics.asp?Page=/Politics/archive/200703/POL20070306b.html

Former Virginia Gov. James Gilmore would like conservatives who are shopping for an alternative to the leading contenders for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination to know that he is no “Johnny come lately,” whether the issue is fighting terrorism, securing tax cuts, preserving gun rights, or promoting the right to life.
….
Gilmore said that, as Virginia’s governor, he fought to downsize government and cut taxes, including a car tax. He supported “right to life” initiatives and Second Amendment rights and was a member of the board of directors of the National Rifle Association.

Immigration: Opposes Amnesty for Undocumented Immigrants

Original source: http://www.kron.com/Global/story.asp?S=6299447&nav=menu130_2_8

Jim Gilmore is, as are most Americans, a descendent of immigrants who came to this country legally to seek the American dream. And, he believes that dream should remain attainable for those who obey the law. However, there should be no amnesty for those who are in our country illegally. As a forceful advocate for homeland security, Jim Gilmore knows that we must secure America’s borders to protect our country. We will not be able to deal successfully with those who are in our country illegally until we have secured our borders and stopped the entrance of additional illegals. We must re-examine our existing immigration laws and develop a better program for temporary workers as well as requiring employers to verify workers are here legally.

Ad from Gilmore on abortion

 Original source: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/local/longterm/library/vagov/ads/ad15.htm

As governor, I won’t ask taxpayers to pay for abortions. I won’t support late-term abortion. And I’ll make sure parents are involved whenever a minor child needs to face the terrible decision that abortion involves.”
